King & Bishop July 2018 Jobs Report

U.S. hiring cooled in July after more-robust gains than previously reported, while the unemployment rate slipped back below 4 percent and wage increases remained subdued, reinforcing a picture of steady labor-market growth in line with the Federal Reserve’s outlook for gradual interest-rate hikes.

Coupled with the unemployment rate drop to 3.9% in July there was a rise in average hourly earnings by 7 cents to $27.05. 157,000 jobs were added in July, which is less than the estimate of about 190,000 jobs economists anticipated. 37,000 manufacturing jobs were added so the manufacturing sector has been doing well. Additionally, there have been job gains in business and professional services, in social assistance and in health care.
