We could write a book on this topic and maybe we should but for now, our expert recruiters thought they would offer those hitting the job market with a few tips on how to ace a job interview. If your resume was written well enough to get you in the door, then you’ll want to take the next step in ensuring you keep that forward momentum going.
Here are a few things you should do that you might not have thought of before you walk in for that interview. And at the bottom, a link to a Boston Globe article to refresh you with the basics.
Make time to research the company you are interviewing with. We can’t emphasize this enough. If you go into a job interview and have limited or no knowledge of the company itself, you’ll have a very tough time progressing through the interview process. A person conducting an interview wants to know that you have more than an interest in getting a job; they want to know that you have an interest in helping the company more forward and grow.
Clean up social media. It’s pretty much become the norm now as more and more hiring managers and recruiters check your social media profiles. Let’s get right to the matter. If you have countless photos of you with a Solo cup in your hand, and you look like you enjoy partying just a bit too much, you may want to start to clean those up. While those photos may not adequately show how you would do your job, they certainly don’t help.
When it’s you turn, ask questions. Prepare questions in advance. In a typical interview, the hiring manager will ask you a number of questions about your skills, past work, your character and more. When it’s your turn, don’t hesitate to ask questions. For one, it shows that you do have a genuine interest in being part of the team. But questions also help you determine if the role is a good fit. If you have done your research before your interview, take the time to write down any questions you might have about the company or your possible role.
We recently found a great article by Peter Post on some of the basics of preparing for a job interview. Check out the link below. Some great advice.
