King & Bishop June 2018 Jobs Report

The U.S. economy added 213,000 jobs in the month of June though the unemployment increased to 4%. The reason for the rise in the unemployment rate is due to the increase in the amount of people joining the labor force in June. Wages rose by 0.2% in June over May. The Year over year increase is 2.7%.

Specifically, 36,000 manufacturing jobs were added in June, which is around twice the number of manufacturing jobs added in May. Professional and business services saw an increase in employment of about 50,000 and education and health services saw an increase of around 54,000.

Both April and May job numbers were revised upwards for 37,000 additional jobs.

Looking at the data, we can see that more jobs were added, specifically in manufacturing and there was an increase in employment in education and other services. Though the unemployment rate rose, there is hope that with the increase in jobs, the unemployment rate will fall as there are more jobs for candidates to fill.
