The September jobs data released last Friday by the BLS showed an increase of 248k new jobs created in the US economy. That is the sixth month this year where the new jobs have been created, in excess of 200k. The ADP employment report released two days prior showed an increase of 88k jobs in small business. The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits unexpectedly fell and hit a fresh three-month low last week, suggesting a strengthening in labor market conditions.
Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 9,000 to a seasonally adjusted 315,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday. That was the lowest reading since late November.
